The 10th FEPOW Day Event-Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society

On Saturday August 12th the Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society will host the 10th FEPOW Day event to be held in Taiwan. As usual, the event will be held at the SPOT THEATRE (台北之家－光點電影院) – 18, Zhongshan North Road Sec. 2 (台北市中山北路二段18號) in downtown Taipei.
There will be a display of POW and military artifacts from the Society’s museum collection, we will have a short memorial service to remember the POWs, and then the film “A WAR STORY” will be featured. This moving docu-drama highlights the life of Canadian POW doctor Major Ben Wheeler and his time at the infamous Kinkaseki POW Camp.
Then following a brief intermission, a short film entitled “KINKASEKI THEN AND NOW” will be shown. Made in 1998, it tells a bit of the story of the camp during wartime and then the viewer is taken on a tour of Kinkaseki as it was then. It has previously been shown in the UK and this will be the first ever showing in Taiwan. The program should finish about 10 pm.
Please note that there are no Chinese subtitles on the films.
The doors will open at 6:00pm for viewing of the artifacts, and the program will start promptly at 6:30. Everyone is invited, admission is free, but space is limited to 70 people, and reservations are a must, so if interested please email the Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society at society@powtaiwan.org no later than Wednesday August 9th for seat reservation.
There is no charge for this event and coffee and fruit drinks will be available. It is a great opportunity to learn more about the Taiwan POWs, so please plan to join if you can. It’s also a great Saturday night out! The Taiwan POW Camps Memorial Society looks forward to seeing you.
